About the Programme

The Executive Master’s Programme addresses professionals working in the field of European Affairs who wish to deepen their knowledge and improve their analytical skills on economic, political and social developments in Europe.

The programme is interdisciplinary and taught fully in English. It is a one year degree programme where students study part time over two years while staying professionally active, allowing them a chance to relate their working life experiences to academic studies. A major part of the teaching activities will take place within the framework of distance learning over the internet. Some activities will require presence in Gothenburg on seven separate occasions.

Programme outline

Semester 1

  • Research methods session 1, (5 hec)
  • Cooperation and conflict in Europe; current theory and research (7,5 hec core course)
  • Research methods session 2 (2,5 hec) will be given in conjunction with this course.

Semester 2

  • European market integration (7,5 hec core course), Research methods session 3 (2,5 hec) will be given in conjunction with this course
  • Environment and Energy in European Integration (7,5 hec elective in-depth course), Research methods session 4 (2,5 hec) will be given in conjunction with this course.
  • Social Europe, (7,5 hec, elective in-depth course), Research methods session 4 (2,5 hec) will be given in conjunction with this course

Semester 3

  • Continuation of Environment and Energy in European Integration or Social Europe
  • Europe as a global actor (7,5 hec core course), Research methods session 5 (2,5 hec) will be given in conjunction with this course

Semester 4

  • Master's thesis (15 hec)

Requirements and Selection

Requirements: A Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent. A minimum of five years documented work experience within the field of European Affairs (in a wide sense). Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.

Tuition Fee

Application fee: 900 SEK
Full programme cost: 105 300 SEK
First payment: 52 650 SEK
