Rent payment plan

Important: Beginning with the spring semester of 2017, students rent their accommodation either from the University or from SGS. This rent payment plan applies only to students renting accommodation from the University. Students renting accommodation from SGS can find more information here:

Information for non-exchange students/tenants

Rent

The rent includes basic furniture, water, electricity, heat, laundry facilities and internet. For more information regarding what you can find in the room, check our FAQ section.

Rental periods 2016-2017

The student's accommodation is rented for fixed periods. The rental and payment periods run as follows:

Full year:
Rental period 20 August 2016 – 31 May 2017
Payment period mid-Aug to mid-Jan & mid-Jan to May

Autumn semester:
Rental period 20 August 2016 – 31 December 2017
Payment period mid-Aug to Dec

Spring semester:
Rental period 14 January 2017 – 31 May 2017
Payment period mid-Jan to May

• The rent is normally charged and paid for twice per semester according to the rent payment plan above. The tenant is obliged to pay the rent in advance and at the latest on the due date indicated on the invoice.

• The rental period for the autumn semester runs until 31 December. Students that need to stay until the autumn semester ends in January can extend the contract period until 15 January. Half a month’s rent will then be charged for January. Requests for extensions in January should be sent by e-mail to studenthousing@gu.se and can only be made during the period 1 October – 15 November.

• The rental period for the spring semester runs until 31 May. Students that need to stay until the spring semester ends in June can extend the contract period until 15 June. Half a month’s rent will then be charged for June. Requests for extensions in June should be sent by e-mail to studenthousing@gu.se and can only be made during the period 1 April – 15 May.

• Students can also extend the stay for the summer, until 31 July. Requests for summer extensions should be sent by e-mail to studenthousing@gu.se before 15 May. Rent will then be charged per month, June and/or July.

Non-exchange student: Rent is charged per calendar month.

Note: Invoices for payment of rent are normally issued two months at a time. Each invoice has a unique invoice number that you need to provide with the payment. You therefore need to wait for the updated invoice before paying.

Invoices for rent

Each invoice has a unique invoice number that you need to provide with the payment. You therefore need to wait for a new invoice before paying. The first invoice will be sent to your home address. A proof of payment should be shown on arrival when you sign the contract. Any subsequent invoice is sent to the student’s address in Gothenburg.

Note that we do not provide payment certificates since the payments are handled by the University´s Unit of Finance. We will check that everything is in order but will contact you only if any problem occurs. It is important that you quote the invoice number when making the payment and that you pay before the due date.

Payment Details 

Make sure to always quote either the OCR number (OCR invoice identifier) or the invoice number (Invoice No.) and pay before the due date.
Please notify us of any discrepancies within 8 days.
You will find the invoice number in the top right corner of the invoice.
The OCR number is at the bottom of the invoice.

In Sweden, please make your payment to:

Some banks accept cash payment. Note that banks charge a fee for this service.

If you wish to pay with your credit card, you can use for instance the Forex bank at Kungsportsavenyn 22.  

From abroad, please pay via SWIFT (also known as bank wire transfer or credit transfer) to the following bank account (account holder: Göteborgs universitet):

Cheques should be made payable to the University of Gothenburg in the currency stated.

Important: Keep a receipt for any questions that might occur.

Cancellation of rental contracts, exchange students

Housing contracts for exchange students are signed for fixed periods. These periods follow the academic semester and not individual classes or exams.

If for emergency or academic reasons you cannot follow our fixed contract periods, and wish to make changes, please contact us. Students must follow the one-month cancellation policy. Contracts can only be cancelled by the last day of each month. Written notice must then be sent to studenthousing@gu.se
