Academic calendar

The academic year in Sweden is divided into two semesters, each lasting 20 weeks.

Autumn 2017: 28 August – 14 January
Spring 2017: 16 January – 4 June

The exact duration of the semesters may vary slightly from department to department and also from year to year. It is therefore advisable to check on the exact dates directly with the department(s) concerned.

Breaks

There is no official winter or spring breaks, besides public holidays. 

Christmas holiday

There is no official Christmas break in the academic calendar. However, in practice there is usually a break from classes around Christmas and New Year’s. The exact dates are determined by each department, so please contact your programme/department for information.

Easter holidays

There is no official Easter break in the academic calendar. However, in practice there is usually a break from classes around public holidays (classes are often informally cancelled on the Thursday before Easter, and Good Friday and Easter Monday are official holidays). The exact dates are determined by each department, so please check with the programme/department to confirm when classes are out.
