International students don’t end up in a Scandinavian city by chance. They come here because they
share a set of beliefs and values — things like equality, sustainability and a modern approach to learning.
They come because these are ideals we share.
Our University consists of future entrepreneurs, financial analysts, climate experts, top musicians, designers and many more. Not only does this make us interesting – you will benefit from an educational environment where different disciplines influence each other. We have unique interdisciplinary programmes in for example Business and Design, Language Technology, and Complex Adaptive Systems.
We work closely with Chalmers University of Technology (a top technical university in Gothenburg), especially in the fields of information technology, physics, mathematics and chemistry.
Not only do we educate both chamber musicians and software engineers, we also actively work for a sustainable future. In 2004 we became the first university in the world, to get environmentally certified according to ISO 14001 and registered with the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme.
We offer something for people with all sorts of goals in life. Because of it, you will get more out of your time here.
If you are looking for a ‘we teach-you listen’ approach, we are not the place for you. Here you will take an active part in your learning. Our teaching staff and professors will encourage you to speak your mind, to question and to see problems from different angles.
It’s all done in an open and welcoming environment where you can easily approach our professors in an informal manner. We take the issue of teaching methods very seriously; in 2015 the University introduced the title Excellent Teacher as a way to highlight teachers with excellent pedagogical proficiency.
You can also expect to carry out many group assignments and projects alongside traditional lectures. Many of our faculties have close connections with corporations and organisations such as Volvo, Astra Zeneca and SKF.
We will always aim to develop your critical thinking and collaborative skills.
We believe that diversity is crucial in order for research and education to flourish. Sweden has a long history of education for the people, not only for an academic elite. If you are from a country outside the EU/EEA and are therefore required to pay tuition in Sweden, there are scholarships you can apply for.
You will study with people from different parts of the world, with different backgrounds and experiences. That in itself is valuable and prepares you for an international career.
It is important for us that our students feel welcome and secure. We actively work with equality and the rights of students.
Being an international student is so much more than studying and going to class. It is also about creating a life. Here you will study in the very heart of the city. We don't have an offsite campus in the outskirts of the city; instead the whole city is our campus. Gothenburg is a modern, international city but has an important background as a ‘workers’ city’. It’s often described as a big small city, and the people of Gothenburg are known for being friendly and helpful.
You will study in the very heart of Scandinavia, being only a train ride away from Copenhagen and Oslo and only a few hours by plane from Rome, Budapest, Berlin and Barcelona. You will benefit from being able to go from bustling city streets to the west coast archipelago or deep green forests in 30 minutes by public transport.
International students rank Gothenburg as a great city to live in. We can only agree.
