The aim of the course is to explore the powerful mechanisms that functional programming languages offer to solve real problems and structure larger programs. The focus lies on library design and the concept of embedded languages. The programming language used in the course is Haskell (www.haskell.org). Concrete concepts that are taught in the course are: the use of advanced type system features such as type classes and generalized algebraic datatypes, design and implementation techniques for embedded languages, monads and monad transformers, parser and pretty printing combinators, and GUI programming techniques. Examples of concrete real-life applications of the above are also part of the course.
Förkunskapskrav: To be eligible for the course, students should have successfully completed two years of an education aimed at a Bachelor´s degree within Computer Science or equivalent. The courses DIT142 Functional programming, MMGD10 Introductory Discrete Mathematics and at least one of the courses DIT230 Programming language technology or DIT331 programming paradigms or equivalent are required. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.
