The course objective is to develop hands-on skills and in-depth understanding of scientific authentication of computer-based documentation and visualisation in the field of heritage conservation. Students are trained to carry out photogrammetric documentation of heritage objects, buildings and environments, and to model, simulate and visualise 3D interpretations and associated research data.
Taking of from fieldwork in a complex heritage site, the students will gather data for an individual project. The students are introduced to and tutored in using applications and technologies for documentation, simulation, and visualization of historical layers and appearances of a delimited heritage site or object. These tools include Structure-from-Motion using Agisoft PhotoScan, laser scanning, modelling in Sketchup, mesh-processing in Meshlab, visualisation in Unity 3d, Augmented Reality presentation using Vuforia, Virtual Reality using Oculus Rift and Google Daydream, and both texture and photo manipulation in Photoshop.
Trough lectures and literature seminars the students are supported to develop a reflective and critical approach to both documentation and visualisation practices, as well as an ability to communicate research data, historical sources, and ethical problems and ambiguities in the presentation of cultural heritage sites and objects.
Förkunskapskrav: Kandidatexamen i kulturvård eller motsvarande. Dessutom krävs språkkunskaper motsvarande Engelska 6/Engelska B.
