  • How do I pay application fee?

    In order for an application to Master's Programmes to be processed, an application fee of SEK 900 must be installed according the instructions at universityadmissions.se. The application fee is solely administered by the University Admissions in Sweden.

  • Where can I find my official letter of notification?

    Your notification of selection result (letter of acceptance) is available online at universityadmissions.se as a printable PDF file. The print-out serves as the official document and should be used when you need to present an official copy of your selection results.

  • How do I apply for residence permit?

    The application process for residence permits is solely administered by the Swedish Migration Agency.

  • Will I receive an invoice to pay my tuition fee?

    The University of Gothenburg does not issue tuition fee invoices. All instalments have to be paid by bank transfer.

  • How do I pay my tuition fee?

    After you have received the notification of selection results, an e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address listed in your user account at universityadmissions.se. This e-mail contains information on how to proceed with the payment.

    Please note that it is not possible to pay the fee before you have received the e-mail from the tuition fee team at the University of Gothenburg. Payments made before receiving the e-mail will not be possible to identify.

    In the second admission round, the e-mail containing payment information will be sent out after you have received the final notification of selection results in August.

    It is not possible to split the tuition fee into smaller instalments. You are always required to pay for each study semester in advance. If you have been admitted to a single subject course, you have to pay for a whole course in advance.

  • Is my tuition fee payment considered to be paid on time?

    We consider your tuition fee instalment to be paid on time if the bank transaction is made before the deadline.

  • Where can I find up-to-date exchange rates?

    The University of Gothenburg can only give costs in SEK. Please use a currency converter like the one available on the webpage How to pay your tuition to find up-to-date exchange rates.

    How to pay your tuition

    The tuition fee team will inform you if your payment is not complete, and you will then receive a payment instruction for the remaining part of the tuition fee.

  • When do I receive my confirmation of payment?

    As soon as a tuition fee payment has been registered by Division of Finance at the University of Gothenburg and further administered by the tuition fee team, you will receive a formal confirmation of payment.

    Please note that it can take several bank/working days in order for a transaction to be administered.

  • Do I have to pay tuition fee for re-registration on courses?

    Once you have paid tuition fee for one course you do not have to pay again when re-register for the same course.

  • Do I have to pay extra if I want to take additional courses?

    Fulltime studies within a programme at the University of Gothenburg equals 30 ECTS per study semester. If you want to take additional courses outside your programme studies, you will need to pay tuition fee for these courses according to instructions.

  • What if I am exempt of paying tuition fee?

    If you have been obliged with a tuition fee condition but consider yourself to meet any of the requirements for exemption of paying tuition fee, you may request a re-assessment of your fee status. For more information about tuition fees and who is required to pay, click the link below.

    Application and tuition fees

    In order to request a re-assessment of your fee status, you are required to upload documents verifying your request onto your personal account on universityadmissions.se and also send a request to tuitionfees@gu.se. The tuition fee team will then re-assess your fee status and notify you of the outcome via email.

  • What insurance do I have?

    Fee-paying students at the University of Gothenburg are automatically covered by FAS+ (i.e. no extra fee will be charged for this). FAS+ is an insurance issued under the authority of the Swedish Legal, Financial and Administrative Service Agency (Kammarkollegiet).

    The insurance is valid 24 hours a day in the Schengen area if the insured has a Schengen visa issued by a Swedish overseas authority. If the insured does not have a Schengen visa or if the insured has a residence permit in Sweden, the insurance is only valid in Sweden.

    The insurance applies during the education period, as well as two weeks prior to the start of studies and two weeks after the end of studies. It is also applicable during direct travel between the home country and Sweden. The insurance is also applicable during the summer, as long as the insured person continues their studies at the university after the summer holidays. Click on the link below for more information.

  • How does Brexit affect UK students?

    The United Kingdom formally left the European Union on 1 February 2020. Transitional rules are in effect until 31 December 2020. During this time, most things will in practice will continue as they are now. Click on the link below for more information.

  • Do you partcipate in any of the US Federal Student Aid programmes?

    The University of Gothenburg is not a participating institution in any of the US Federal Student Aid programmes. US Citizens are welcome to apply to our scholarship programmes at the University of Gothenburg instead.

  • Do you accept Canadian Loan Schemes?

    University of Gothenburg is not registered with the Canadian tax authorities and can therefore not accept Canadian loan schemes. Canadian Citizens are welcome to apply to our scholarship programmes at the University of Gothenburg instead.
