Application - exchange students

The University of Gothenburg uses an online application form for incoming exchange students. Please note that you have to be nominated by your home university before applying. To access the online form, please use the link to the right.

Application deadlines:

  • May 15th for the autumn semester and academic year.
  • November 15th for the spring semester.


The application form is available during following periods:

  • March 1st - May 15th (February 15th – April 1st for the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts.)
  • September 1st - November 15th.

Special instructions

The deadlines above apply for all faculties except the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts. More information  under Additional requirements below.

* University-wide agreements are not associated with a specific faculty at the University of Gothenburg. Please ask your international coordinator if you are unsure what kind of agreement your university has with the University of Gothenburg.

Application instructions

Incoming exchange students applying to a department/school at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, should visit the department/school's website for more information about exchange opportunities, application procedures and deadlines.

Step 1:

Click on the link "Apply here" to the right and start fill in the form. Fill in all required fields carefully. Fields marked with a star "*" are mandatory.

Step 2:

After all the fields has been filled in and you pushed the button "Send application" you will recieve an email with further instructions. The email contains a link to follow to register to Mobility Online and finish the application. Follow the link in the mail and create an account with a user name and a password.

Step 3:

After you create an account you get an email with a link to your account. Here are some final steps. Start with the "Complete Personal Details" and follow the workflow and upload documents that are asked for by the host Department/Faculty. After you have completed the personal details you will get an email with your application in PDF. All documents are optional to upload in the system, except the Transcript. Please check carefully with the host Department/Faculty what is the mandatory documents for you to upload because it is different documents for each Department/Faculty. After uploading the Transcript an administrator starts handling your application.

Step 4: Submit application

There is no button for submitting the application. After you uploaded the Transcript of records the application is automatically submitted.

Please note that the course application is made separately. You can find more information on your faculty website under "Additional requirements".

The grading and credit system

Unless the department decides to use some other grading scale, the grades assigned are Pass with Distinction (VG), Pass (G) or Fail (U).

Sweden has a system of higher education credits (högskolepoäng), which are equivalent to ECTS credits. A normal 40-week academic year corresponds to 60 higher education credits, 30 higher education credits per semester.
