Frequently asked questions

We have gathered the most common questions about the University of Gothenburg Study Scholarships (UGSS) and University of Gothenburg Study Scholarships Syria (UGSS Syria).

  • Application period

    The application for the scholarships UGSS and UGSS Syria, intended for studies starting autumn semester 2019, closed on February 14 at 1 pm.

  • Eligibility UGSS

    You are eligible to apply if you

    • are required to pay tuition fees
    • have applied for a Master’s programme, full-time studies, at the University of Gothenburg by 15 January 2019
    • have paid the application fee and documented your eligibility for studies by 1 February 2019.

    Already enrolled students can not apply for the scholarship.

  • Eligibility UGSS Syria

    You are eligible to apply if you

    • hold Syrian citizenship
    • are required to pay tuition fees
    • have applied for a Master’s programme, full-time studies, at the University of Gothenburg by 15 January 2019
    • have paid the application fee and documented your eligibility for studies by 1 February 2019.

    Already enrolled students can not apply for the scholarship.

  • CV and Letter of Motivation

    When you apply for the scholarships, you should also submit your CV and a Letter of Motivation for the Master’s programme you have applied for.

    If you have applied for more than one Master’s programme, please submit one Letter of Motivation for each.

    There are no specific templates that you must use for your CV or Letter of Motivation.

  • Selection process

    After the admissions results are published on 4 April 2019, academic staff make the assessment and ranking of all scholarship applicants that are admitted to a Master's programme.

    They will have access to your academic merits, CV and Letter of Motivation in order to assess your suitability for the programme as well as your commitment and desire to study.

  • Number of scholarships

    An estimated 25 applicants will be granted the UGSS for studies starting autumn semester 2019.

    Two applicants will be granted the UGSS Syria for studies starting autumn semester 2019.

  • Application fee for studies

    In order for an application to Master’s programmes to be processed, an application fee of SEK 900 must be paid according to the instructions at universityadmissions.se.

    Applying for the UGSS and the UGSS Syria does not cover the application fee.

    Application and tuition fees

  • Scholarship offers

    The scholarship offers are announced on our website during the week of 13 to 17 May 2019.

    If you have applied for UGSS and/or UGSS Syria you are recommended to wait for the scholarship results before paying the tuition fee. The results will be published before the deadline for tuition fee payment.
