  • What kind of scholarships does University of Gothenburg offer for Master's degree programmes?

    The University of Gothenburg offers fee-paying students the opportunity to receive a scholarship to pursue a Master's programme mainly through The Axel Adler Scholarship (TAAS).

  • Which kind of students are eligible to apply for scholarships?

    You are eligible to apply for the scholarship if you meet the criteria listed below:

    • You are liable to pay tuition fees to Swedish universities (a citizen of a country outside of EU/EEA and Switzerland).
    • You have applied for any of our Master’s programmes, full-time studies, or if you have applied for the Bachleor’s program in software engineering, full-time studies. You must have made your application by 15 January 2020, through
    • You have paid the application fee and documented your eligibility for studies by 3 February 2020.
    • You applied to a University of Gothenburg programme as your priority 1.


  • When will the scholarship application open and close?

    Students that are eligible for scholarships will receive an invite by e-mail with application instructions by 7 February 2020. The application will then close on 14 February 2020. If you are an eligible student and have not received an e-mail, please let us know:

  • How do I apply for a scholarship? What is the application process?

    Only applicants with a University of Gothenburg programme as their priority 1 are eligible to apply for a scholarship. Eligible students will receive an invite by e-mail with application instructions by 7 February 2020. The e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address you have registered at There will be no open application, like the years before.

  • Do I have to submit a CV and a letter of motivation for each programme that I have applied to?

    It is enough with only one CV, however it can be valuable to upload a Letter of Motivation for each programme. There are no specific templates that you have to use for your CV or Letter of Motivation. The CV and Letter of Motivation should be submitted via your account at under the 'Other documents' category.

  • How large are the scholarship amounts, what will it cover?

    The scholarships will cover the tuition fee of the programme you're admitted to. It will be a tuition fee waiver only, no additional financial support for living expenses or travel grants.

  • If I am unable to apply in time, can I apply later?

    The invite to the scholarship application will be sent to eligible students only. The application round will open 7 February 2020 and close 14 February 2020. If you're unable to apply by then, please let us know at

  • Does University of Gothenburg offer scholarships for second year students?

    At the moment we do not offer second year students a scholarship, but it is in a working process. Keep yourself updated on our webpages.

  • Does University of Gothenburg offer scholarships for Bachelor's degree programmes?

    In the autumn of 2020, we offer a scholarship for one Bachelor's programme through The Axel Adler Scholarship (TAAS). That is the Bachelor's programme in software engineering. The scholarship will cover your tuition fees.

    There are also several of other types of scholarships you can apply to at the University of Gothenburg on the Bachelor level.

  • When can I expect to receive a decision regarding my application?

    Our ambition is that you will have an offer of scholarship by the same day that you receive your admission letter, which means by 3 April 2020 for Master's programmes and 20 April 2020 for Bachelor's programmes.

  • Can I combine The Axel Adler Scholarship with other scholarships?

    Please note that it is not possible to combine The Axel Adler Scholarship (TAAS) with any another scholarship covering the tuition fee.

    If you are offered any other scholarship, such as Swedish Institute, The Richard C. Malmsten Memorial Foundation Scholarship or a scholarship from your home country and you decide to accept that scholarship, your application for The Axel Adler Scholarship (TAAS) will automatically be removed from the selection process.

  • Are there other scholarships that I can apply for besides The Axel Adler Scholarship (TAAS)?

    Yes, you can apply for the SI Scholarships. The Swedish Institute (SI), a government agency, administers over 500 scholarships each year for students and researchers coming to Sweden.

    Are you a citizen of the People's Republic of China or the Republic of India and required to pay a tuition fee for education in Sweden? Then you have the opportunity to apply for the Volvo Group Scholarships.

    If you have applied for and been admitted to a Master's programme at the School of Business, Economics and Law and are required to pay a tuition fee for education in Sweden, you can apply to The Richard C. Malmsten Memorial Foundation Scholarship.

  • What happens if I do not succeed during my studies, will the scholarship be withdrawn?

    You must succeed with a passing result of 75 %, which means 22,5 credits, to be able to keep your scholarship. We do follow ups every semester to see that each student with scholarships follow the programme and get passing results.

  • To be continuously granted the scholarship each semester, is there any criteria's?

    In order to be continuously granted the scholarship for each study semester, you must study full-time and be able to present pass on the courses within the study programme, at least 75 %, which means 22,5 credits. Academic assessments are made after each semester by the Scholarship Officers.

  • Can I get a deferment of my scholarship?

    We follow the same rules as admission for deferment of your scholarship. If you get a deferment of your studies, we most likely will give you a deferment of your scholarship.

  • What should I do if my fee status changes?

    If your fee status change during the studies, you must report this in writing to the Scholarships Office at the University of Gothenburg,

  • I want to take a study break, can I keep my scholarship?

    If you need a study break, please turn to your counsellor at your section of education. If you and your counsellor decide that you will have a study break, please contact us and we will make sure that the scholarship will be transferred to the upcoming semesters when you return from your brake.

  • Plagiarism and cheating, what would happen to my scholarship?

    Please read about the rules and regulation on plagiarism and cheating.

    If you are suspended from your studies, we reserve the right to withdraw your scholarship.
