About the Course

The aim of the course is to give practical and theoretical knowledge on innovation, innovation management and entrepreneurship. Emerging trends in innovation of products, processes and institutions are explored. Special attention will be given to the opportunities and challenges that face the actors engaged in innovation and entrepreneurship in the digital society. The course mainly focuses on innovation phenomena beside incumbent industrial firms, like the entrepreneurial actor, communities, public institutions and emerging innovation phenomena. The course consists of three blocks:

Foundations of innovation and entrepreneurship

This block covers fundamentals on innovation and entrepreneurship, including creativity, design, business models, financial issues and intellectual property. It also includes theory on agency, institutions and practice.

Emerging innovation phenomena in the digital society

This block covers examples of emerging innovation phenomena like open source, commons based peer production and citizen science as well as new arenas for innovation, such as public authorities, cities, and civil society.

Sustainability and innovation

Sustainability has become a key issue in the innovation landscape. Innovation and digital technology is claimed to have the potential to solve societal challenges on a global scale. Environmental, economic and social aspects as well as issues of gender, equality and inclusion are covered.

The course consists of lectures, guest lectures and seminars. The invited guest lecturers represent a broad span of experienced entrepreneurs and innovators, from areas including venture capital, start-ups and public sector, as well as academics from informatics, business, sociology and law.

Examination is in the form of an innovation project (idea-design-business) in groups of 3-4 students (7 hp), and one individual paper assignment (8 hp).

Requirements and Selection

Requirements: Bachelor degree (180 hp) or at least seven years documented work experience from IT development and/or business development. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS

Selection: Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 225 credits.

Application fee: 900 SEK
Full course cost: 35 750 SEK
First payment: 35 750 SEK
