About the Course

This course aims at giving an orientation about concepts, working methods and strategies in modern drug development, with emphasis on the early part (“drug discovery”). The following topics are treated: Identification and validation of new cellular target molecules, bioinformatics, genetic model organisms, and methods for high-throughput screening. The course content consists of lectures, seminars, practical demonstrations and written examination. Invited speakers will treat different applied and fundamental aspects, and opportunities will be offered to study practical working methods. The goal for the course is to be oriented about concepts, working methods and strategies in modern drug development.

Requirements and Selection

Requirements: Passed basic courses in Biology 75 credits (BIO900 Cell Biology, BIO905 Molecular Genetics, BIO910 Biological form and function, BIO915 Ecology and Evolution and BIO920 Biodiversity and Systematics) and completion of Chemistry 30 credits. In addition you need at least one approved advanced level course in biology, 15 credits, in a relevant subject. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.

Selection: Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 225 credits.
