About the Course

The degree project aims to provide you with in-depth practical and theoretical knowledge in physiology and cell biology with focus on current research and research methodology. You will work independently, under supervision, mainly with data collection and analysis and the project can focus on plants or animals. Potential projects range from how the overall physiological processes are influenced by various environmental factors (toxins, temperature, salinity, oxygen, etc.) to detailed studies at cellular and organelle levels (such as cell signaling, enzyme activity, membrane transport). The course also includes the study of scientific literature and participation in seminars. The examination is based on the written and oral presentations of your work as well as assessment of the practical implementation of the project.

You should have arranged a supervisor and a project before the start of the course. The degree project is usually carried out within one of the ongoing research projects at the department, you find more information about this on the department´s website but external projects are also possible (e.g. at other institutions, industries or governmental agencies).

The focus of the project is determined in consultation between you and your supervisor, and the scope should correspond to full-time studies for one semester. To be registered on the course you need also to get the project approved by the examiner. The course can, after an agreement with the course leader, be extended to 45 or 60 credits.
