About the Course

This course is for you that search knowledge about the energy systems of the society and want to take part in analysis of, and discussion about, the development of the future energy system of the society, including transportation in an energy and environmental perspective. The course includes an overview of the fundamentals of energy systems. In a specialized part, physical, chemical, and technical concepts for energy conversions of importance are treated. The use of different biological and geological energy resources is also treated, as well as techniques for energy recovery and production of different energy carriers. Resources treated are e.g. sun, wind, biofuels, petroleum, nuclear-, and geothermal power. How the use of the above- mentioned energy resources, e.g. for transportation, influences the environment is also treated. The course is given in English and consists of lectures, seminars, calculus exercises, assessments, study visits and a project work.

Requirements and Selection

Requirements: Alt 1: The entrance requirements are at least pass degree in the courses Naturresurshushållning (ES1300), Miljövetenskapliga metoder och projekt (ES1203) (or ES1202), Föroreningars spridning och effekter på biologiska system (ES1305) (or ES1303 + ES1304) or the equivalent.
Alt 2: At least pass degree in the courses Atmospheric Science (NGN160) and Global change - problem, analysis, measures (ES2613) (or FIM900) or the equivalent.
Alt 3: At least 90 credits in natural science (biology, earth science, chemistry, environmental science - natural science or physics) or technology out of which at least 30 credits in environmental science - natural science.
Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.

Selection: Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 225 credits.

Full course cost: 29 101 SEK
First payment: 29 101 SEK
