About the Course

This course is intended for students who are doing a Master degree (one year) in Global Studies. You will learn to conduct a qualified and scientific study within a given time frame, and to develop, exercise and demonstrate an expertise in the particular field of the thesis, as well as general scholarly competence. During the writing process you will have an supervisor from whom you will receive substantive guidance. The focus is on the writing of a thesis within the field of Global Studies, which includes Development Studies, Global Gender Studies, Human Ecology, International Conflict Resolution, International Relations, Regional Studies, and Social Anthropology. You will increas the ability to scientifically analyse a problem as well as to write and verbally argue scientifically. You will also learn to position yourself in relation to the ongoing debate concerning a particular scientific research problem. The thesis will be defended at a seminar.

Requirements and Selection

Requirements: A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 30 credits in a subject within the field of global studies, or equivalent competence. One completed core course in the second cycle within the field of global studies, one completed in-depth course in the second cycle within the field of global studies, and the completion of the course Research Design and Methods, 15 credits, or the equivalent competence, is required. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.

Selection: Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies.

Application fee: 900 SEK
Full course cost: 21 003 SEK
First payment: 21 003 SEK
