About the Course

The high-tech society we live in is based on minerals and mineral products such as metals, ceramics and construction materials. Crystallography, silicate and non-silicate minerals are covered in lectures. Practical identification of mineral specimens and use of the polarising microscope is also covered. Assignments require literature study. This course provides the basic knowledge of mineralogy needed by all professional geoscientists and also forms the basis for advanced studies in mineralogy, petrology, ore geology and Precambrian Geology.

Requirements and Selection

Requirements: 60 credits in the main field of Earth Sciences is required, of which 75 % of the courses must have the grade at least Pass. Student with an equivalent education may be given admission to the programme after examination. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.

Selection: Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 225 credits.

Application fee: 900 SEK
Full course cost: 14 550 SEK
First payment: 14 550 SEK

Study Guidance
