About the Course

This course provides a basic knowledge of igneous and metamorphic petrology, i.e the origin of rocks in a plate tectonic context. The course covers nomenclature, interpretation of rock texture, field relations, phase diagrams for major minerals and mineral assemblages and chemographic diagrams, origin and fractionation of magmatic rocks,essential metamorphic rocks from different protoliths, and the metamorphic facies concept.

Selection: Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 225 credits.
