About the Course

The course strives to give students a brief insight into all aspects of hydrogeology without any in depth coverage of specific fields. The aim of the course is to enable students to understand a wide range of hydrogeological problems and applications and the concepts and methods required to manage those. Introduction is given to the entire field of water resources management, the relevance and importance of water for the environment and the society; hydrogeology in general, its role and position within earth system science and to the main fields of application; components of the hydrological cycle with focus on groundwater; introduction of methods to describe and quantify important processes such as discharge, precipitation, evaporation, recharge, etc.

Brief introduction to methods used in hydrogeology: Field and laboratory measurements; Hydro-geo-chemistry and environmental isotopes; Modeling (basic principles) of groundwater flow and transport; Case studies: Typical problems and applications in hydrogeology.

Requirements and Selection

Requirements: 60 credits in the main field of Earth System Sciences, Geography or Environmental Sciences and Ma D or the equivalent. Knowledge in general geosciences corresponding to GV1410 all with the grade at least Pass or the equivalent. Students with comparable qualifications may, after evaluation, be accepted to the course.

Selection: Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 225 credits.

Application fee: 900 SEK
Full course cost: 14 550 SEK
First payment: 14 550 SEK
