About the Course

The Advanced Petrology course focuses on quantification of metamorphic processes, such as determination of pressure and temperature conditions in metamorphic rocks, construction of pressure-temperature paths and thermodynamic modelling of phase diagrams. It will enable the successful student to apply geothermobarometrical and thermodynamic approaches to geodynamic questions as well as to evaluate thermodynamic data critically.

Requirements and Selection

Requirements: 165 credits in the main field of Earth Sciences is required, of which 90 % of the courses must at least have the grade Pass. Of these courses knowledge corresponding to the grade Pass in Mineralogy GVG210 (or MPN011), Geochemistry 1 GVG240 (or MPN120) and Petrology GVG270 or equivalent is required.

Selection: Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 225 credits.

Full course cost: 14 875 SEK
First payment: 14 875 SEK
