Physical Oceanography II

About the Course

The course is a continuation on OCM100, Physical oceanography I and gives an introduction to time dependent phenomena in the ocean, such as waves and instabilities on different scales. These are described both mathematically and numerically. Great emphasis is put on the physical understanding of these processes, and how they affect the large scale circulation and how the large scale circulation respond to time dependent forcing.

The course covers the following topics: ocean waves (wind generated, Kelvin, Poincaré, Rossby), oscillations in a stratified ocean, mechanisms of instability in the ocean.
