Physical Oceanography II

Master's level | 7.5 credits | Course code: OCM200

The course does not start as a freestanding course this academic year but can start within a program or a course package. Please contact the department for further information.

About the Course

The course is a continuation on OCM100, Physical oceanography I and gives an introduction to time dependent phenomena in the ocean, such as waves and instabilities on different scales. These are described both mathematically and numerically. Great emphasis is put on the physical understanding of these processes, and how they affect the large scale circulation and how the large scale circulation respond to time dependent forcing.

The course covers the following topics: ocean waves (wind generated, Kelvin, Poincaré, Rossby), oscillations in a stratified ocean, mechanisms of instability in the ocean.

Tuition Fee

Please contact the department.
EU/EEA citizens, Swedish residence permit holders and exchange students do not pay fees. More information on: http://www.universityadmissions.se
