About the Course

How are certain forms of religious conviction able to motivate violent extremism? Which social and psychological factors underpin religiously motivated acts of violence? The course deals with what has been termed religious fundamentalism and violent extremism as well as its different global expressions. The course takes its departure in contemporary research on religious fundamentalism and violent extremism. The history and effects of fundamentalism from the 1900s up until the present day provide a background for the various examples brought up during the course.

Important information 2020-03-16 to applicants to the campus alternative regarding the corona pandemic : if teaching and examination on campus cannot be carried out in autumn 2020, the course will be given online instead.

Requirements and Selection

Requirements: Bachelor s degree or University studies equal to a Bachelor s degree, including an approved Bachelor thesis of at least 15 credits. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 5/English A from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.

Selection: Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 225 credits.

Application fee: 900 SEK
Full course cost: 10 750 SEK
First payment: 10 750 SEK
