About the Course

Humanity has as long as we can trace it sanctified places, which have become subject to pilgrimage, reverence and conflicts. In recent years, journeys to pilgrimage sites have increased extensively on the global level. Abandoned Catholic pilgrim trails have been taken into use and are now targets of millions of tourists annually. Around the cities of Jerusalem, Mecca and Amritsar, full-scale tourist industries have emerged. The course introduces key concepts such as pilgrimage and religious tourism, highlighting these phenomena on the basis of current research.
