About the Course

What is hidden in history (2)

This course is an opportunity to develop an explorative artistic project that responds to the concept of “hidden histories”. You will identify relevant processes of contemporary art, photography, film and other creative practices for your project and you will have an opportunity to present new work and discuss your own research.

You are asked to develop your own concepts in relation to history, memory and site, and to consider constructions of the past as contested artistic, cultural and political questions. The word “history” is used here in the broadest sense and ranges in meaning from questions of myth and story-telling to notions of personal and ‘collective’ memory; from archival and museum practices to questions of place-making and identity. You are expected to independently develop a set of references that inform the development of your project.
The course is primarily targeted at students who are completing ongoing studies in a programme of artistic education. The course consists of student presentations, seminars, critique sessions, independent practice, group tutorials and key readings.
Application to the course is by a one page written project proposal. Successful applicants will be expected to present their project proposals in group-sessions in the first weeks of the course. Over the course there will be three stages where work-in-progress is presented in group-critique sessions.
The course is taught in English and runs from week 24 to 35, 75% time.
Please note that only open-plan and shared learning spaces are available for this course. No individual studio spaces are offered.
