About the Programme

The program focuses on the organ as an instrument for solo repertoire, improvisation and ensemble music. It is organized in cooperation with the organ researchers at Göteborg Organ Art Center. It is also a preparatory course for doctoral studies. The program will give a chance to continue your organ studies at an advanced level, integrated with studies of keyboard instruments traditionally related to organ repertoire and improvisation, such as: piano, fortepiano, harpsichord, harmonium and clavichord.

Gothenburg has an organ and keyboard landscape available to the students that is without peer in Sweden and comparable to the best organ landscape in Europe. Many of these instruments are integrated into daily teaching and practising: the world-famous four-manual North German Baroque organ, the Willis organ fr 1871, both in Örgryte New church, and the French Symphonic organ based on the work of Cavaillé-Coll at the Academy of Music and Drama, among others. The Academy of Music and Drama offers great opportunities for ensemble playing and improvisation.

• Individual lessons in organ interpretation and improvisation and related keyboard instruments as well as group lessons and seminars.
• The course Organ as a Mirror of its Time follows a four-semester cycle of lectures, projects and master classes.
• Class supporting research strategies and academic writing.

As a student, you also have regular contact with ongoing research at GOArt and participate in the annual Göteborg International Organ Academy.
