About the Programme

The master's programme in International Business and Trade provides a distinctive combination of training and knowledge about the functioning of multinational companies—large and small—in the global economy. As a student of the programme, you will enhance your understanding of the geography, processes, and organization of international business and develop capabilities for sustainable and competitive managerial decision making.

About the Education

Continuous globalization processes of domestic economies have led to a situation where firms must face and comprehend the impact of global production, innovation, and trade networks. Consequently, there is a growing need for firms and managers to respond to increased opportunities and complexities of greater and more relaxed movement of capital, people, services, products, and knowledge as they are subject to, and must understand, stakeholders at national and supranational levels. This programme offers a unique cross-disciplinary outlook on global business—international business and economic geography.

A uniquely balanced programme

Our programme’s foundation in both international business studies and economic geography make it unique in the area of international management. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, the programme synthesizes methods of international business environment analysis with theories concerning internationalization and strategic management of multinational corporations. This also includes an understanding of the contextual frameworks affecting international trade and foreign direct investment.

Distinctive competences and skills

We provide a distinctive combination of training and knowledge about the functioning of multinational companies in the global economy. This is viewed from a business perspective and supported by a profound understanding concerning the geography of economic activity. You will engage in live cases in cooperation with the business community and develop business acumen and distinctive competences required to operate within multinational firms, including how to conduct business environment analysis and understand challenges and opportunities associated with internationalization processes of firms. Additionally, you will obtain key insights and skills related to international strategic management, the management and organizing of international firms, understanding recent trends in the globalization of innovation, and challenges and opportunities related to business in Asian emerging markets.

International Careers

We combine current academic research and theory with practical application and problem-based learning. In a co-creative environment where your experiences are valued, you will increase your skills to operate in a cross-cultural environment. Project assignments emphasize real-world examples and are implemented in close cooperation with both established multinational corporations and internationalizing small- and medium-sized firms. Our programme is especially designed for students who plan a future career in international companies in purchasing, exports, business, or strategic management, and is also aimed at those who wish to specialize in trade policy or trade promotion in international organizations or national government institutions. Opportunities for exchange studies at designated universities abroad provide the opportunity to gain international experience.
