Welcome Programme

The International Student Welcome Programme is held at the beginning of each semester. The programme of events and activities provides international students with practical information about the University and living in Gothenburg. It is also a perfect opportunity to meet other international students and Student Buddies from all over the world.

Monday 15 January: Arrival Day and pickup service

We organise a pickup service from the airport, train station, bus and ferry terminals. Staff from the University and Student Buddies from the student unions will welcome you to Gothenburg and guide you through the day.

Welcome packs
The Welcome pack includes maps, University information, a bucket list, information about public transport, and much more. We aim to hand it out on 15 January during the arrival day and on 17 January during the fair and information day. 

 

Tuesday 16 January: Welcome Day

The University of Gothenburg formally welcomes you to the University and the start of the Spring 2018 semester. We will introduce you to the University and present an array of services and activities that are available to you. Thereafter you will learn more about Sweden and the Swedes. The day finishes with a panel discussion with current Swedish and international students, who share their insights into student life in Gothenburg. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions of the panel on stage.

Wednesday 17 January: Fair and Information Day

Information sessions include a practical information session on important topics such as health care, insurances, Student housing, and more. Optional sessions run p cover services offered by the University Library, as well as Travel in Sweden and to neighbouring countries.

At the fair, you will meet university staff, student organisations as well as other exhibitors who will answer your questions and help you
become familiar with the University and Gothenburg.

Your faculty and department may organise additional events and orientation gatherings not mentioned here. For more information about events organised by your faculty, please contact your department.

Welcome Reception hosted by the City of Gothenburg
The City of Gothenburg invites new international students to a welcome reception. This popular mingle event includes a welcome speech by the lord mayor, food, drinks, and of course an excellent chance to spend a beautiful evening with fellow students.

This event is free of charge but you need to bring your ticket and valid ID with you. We will send out an invitation once everything has been confirmed.

Student Buddies' activities
The Student Buddies organise plenty of activities both at the start and throughout the term in order to help you settle in and meet fellow students. You can contact them if you need more information about student life in Gothenburg or if you want to know more about the different activities they arrange for you.

Student Göteborg events
The Student Göteborg events aim to welcome all new students, national and international, to the city of Gothenburg. The different events and activities are designed to make you discover and experience the city while getting to know other students in a relaxed and fun way.
