Exchange Student Housing

The Welcome Services at the University of Gothenburg offers student rooms and apartments to exchange students within the Erasmus and Linnaeus Palme programmes, as well as to exchange students within the framework of a bilateral agreement.

Exchange Students

Please note that you have to be nominated by your home university before applying. As an exchange student you apply for housing as part of your application for exchange studies at the University of Gothenburg. In the application you just state that you would like to apply for student housing and we will get back to you about the outcome and how to proceed by the beginning of June for the autumn semester / by the beginning of December for the spring semester. Please go to Application-exchange students.

If you are allocated a student accommodation we will send instructions, including a code how to proceed to be able to register/continue the process at SGS/UGOT. Please note that you should not register at SGS before that since you will then be listed in the queue for all other students.

You find information about the accommodations we offer exchange students through the local student housing company SGS, under the section Residences.

The earliest date to move in to our student accommodations is 15 August for the autumn semester and 15 January for the spring semester.

No Housing Guarantee

During the spring terms the University have always been able to offer all exchange students an accommodation in a student housing residence, but please note that the University do not guarantee housing. There is a shortage of housing in the city, especially student accommodations during the autumns. For information about alternative accommodation options, please read our Housing guide for exchange students 2020/2021. We update the guide as necessary throughout the year, but you can always find the latest version here.
