The rooms and flats that we rent out are provided by SGS Studentbostäder, the local student housing company. SGS offers accommodation across the city, but our residences are concentrated to eight areas. For more information about the residences and areas, e.g. type of room/flat, size, etc., see each residence page.

With the exception of Medicinareberget, no residences are reserved for only international students, so you will have plenty of opportunities to meet both Swedish and other international students.

Rooms and Flats

All rooms come with a private bathroom and basic furniture, such as a desk, a bookshelf, a bed, chairs and lamps.
For detailed information about inventories, choose your residence and follow the link "SGS area information" for each area.
The rent includes electricity, water, heating, internet access and laundry facilities.

Internet Access

High-speed internet access is included in the rent. It is supplied by the SGS Network Group.

You register online for this service when you move in. Please note that you have to bring your own computer and Ethernet cable. The connection is a wire-bound connection, providing speed of up to 100 Mbps for sending and receiving data.

Important: A router that enables wireless connection is located in all shared rooms (at Kastanjebacken and Rosendal 5B).
If you live in a single room, you need to bring an Ethernet cable.

For more information, see the residence pages for Birger Jarl, Kastanjebacken or Rosendal.

Local Transport

The University of Gothenburg is a city university with faculties spread over the city centre. Departments are usually within walking distance off each other. You can reach the city centre in 20 minutes from all student residential areas.

Gothenburg’s public transport system is operated by Västtrafik and includes buses, trams and ferries.

Gothenburg has a comprehensive bike lane network, so you will always be near a bicycle path that will take you to the centre. Getting a used bike once you are here can be a practical and economical way to get around.
